Essential Businesses, Support for Business and Social Distancing in the Workplace

Many constituents have contacted me about which businesses can remain open and concerns over following social distancing guidelines while at work.

All BEIS guidance can be found on .gov.uk, below are direct links to key advice

Health Guidance for the workplace:

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has published a list of which companies must close and which are exempt, this list can be found here.

BEIS has also updated social distancing guidance for different sectors, including construction, manufacturing and retail, this guidance can be found here.

Example leaflets and posters for the workplace detailing health guidance and social distancing advice can be found here.

Support for Businesses:

An overview of all support available can be found here.

The details of the Job Retention Scheme can be found here, the online claim system should be live by the end of April.

The details of the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme can be found here on the British Business Bank website.

Businesses can claim back some statutory sick pay they have already paid to employees, details can be found here and the online claim system run by HMRC will be live soon.

As a member of the BEIS committee, I will continue urging the Government and BEIS to review the list of essential businesses allowed to be open, support for businesses and improving social distancing guidance.
