Alexander has discovered that some residents have received £50 compensation because Yorkshire Water failed to notify them properly before adding this charge. But they only received this compensation after going through a complaints process – or even taking their case to Ofwat.
You may be entitled to compensation too if:
✅ You were charged the £44.65 but did not receive clear notification before the charge was applied.
What you can do:
✔️ Check your bill dates against notification emails/letters from Yorkshire Water.
✔️ If you didn’t get notified, you can complain directly to Yorkshire Water here: www.yorkshirewater.com/complaint – many residents have received £50 back.
✔️ If Yorkshire Water rejects your complaint, you can escalate it to Ofwat here: https://www.ofwatcaseportal.org.uk/submitanenquiry/

Alexander, along with Maltby & Hellaby councillors who have been leading on this campaign on behalf of Rotherham Conservatives, has written to Yorkshire Water and Ofwat, the regulator, demanding that compensation is made automatic for all affected residents, but in the meantime, please check your bills and take action if you are eligible.
If you need help understanding the process or want to share your experience to help others, please let Alexander know.
